IIHF President René Fasel is not affraid of Sazka Arena being ready to host the 2004 Ice-Hockey World Championship. „You should be proud. Sazka Arena will be one of the most beautiful in Europe,“ Fasel said. All the members of IIHF council visited the construction site in Prague – Vysocany.

The Czech Republic came into existence on January 1, 1993 after the dissolution of the former Czechoslovakia. This act was preceded by the “Velvet Revolution” in November 1989, after which Czechoslovakia began to unburden itself of forty years of communist rule. The Czech Republic is now a democratic nation and is scheduled to join the European Union on May 1, 2004.

On Tuesday, November 18, 2003, Zbynek Kusy, the Chairperson of the 2004 Ice Hockey World Championship (IIHF) Organizing Committee transported the World Championship trophy from Zurich, the seat of the IIHF to the host country, the Czech Republic.
